Elena Dubinets
Elena Dubinets, Ph.D., serves as Vice President of Artistic Planning for the Seattle Symphony and Artistic Advisor for the Seattle Chamber Players. Dubinets received M.A. and Ph.D. degrees from the Moscow State Tchaikovsky Conservatory in Russia and has lived in the United States since 1996. In 2002, she was a Stipendiat at the Paul Sacher Stiftung in Basel, Switzerland, studying the manuscripts of Morton Feldman and Conlon Nancarrow.
Dubinets is an authority on Russian and American contemporary music. Her interest in cross-cultural exchange has led her to present several music festivals in Russia, Europe, Latin America and the United States, including all of the Seattle Chamber Players' Icebreaker festivals, Wired Strings festival with the Paul Dresher Ensemble in San Francisco, Festival of Contemporary Russian Music in Iowa City and two Alternativa festivals of American music in Russia.
Dubinets' scholarly work has led her to publish numerous articles and four books, including Made in the USA: Music is What Sounds Around on American experimental music (Moscow, Russia, 2006), and Prince Andrei Volkonsky: A Score of Life (Moscow, Russia, 2010), as well as several translations (including a Russian edition of Philip Kotler's and Joanne Scheff Bernstein's Standing Room Only: Strategies for Marketing in the Performing Arts). She is currently working on her fourth book, Beautiful Land, and Life is Different Here, about the composers of contemporary Russian diaspora
